Bearish trend persisted in the interbank market on Saturday as the rupee shed another two paisa versus the dollar for buying and selling at 60.17 and 60.19, respectively. Demand for dollars to clear the import bills continued and may not allow the rupee to recover its lost ground in the near future, dealers said.
In the world markets, the dollar managed to hold firmness versus the leading currencies, they said.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee shed two paisa versus the dollar for buying at 60.52, it however, gained three paisa for selling at 60.57, dealers said.
The rupee maintained its overnight levels versus the euro for buying and selling at Rs 76.30 and Rs 76.40, respectively.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee closed the week on a negative note, as it depreciated its value by five-paisa in relation to the greenback in the local currency markets.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading at Friday's closing rates of Rs 60.50 and Rs 60.60 on buying and selling sides, respectively.
The dollar maintained upward slide and closed higher at Rs 60.55 and Rs 60.65 as its buying and selling rates, respectively, the dealers added.
However, the local currency showed strength and improved its value against the pound sterling. The British pound was purchased at Rs 111.25 and was sold at Rs 111.55 as compared to Rs 111.40 and Rs 111.70 of Friday, the dealers added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged at the open currency markets of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Saturday.
The dollar opened at Rs 60.40 (buying) and Rs 60.50 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe any further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 60.40 (buying) and Rs 60.50 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 112.25 (buying) and Rs 112.80 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe any change and closed at Rs 112.25 (buying) and Rs 112.80 (selling).
