Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is the highest forum to consider financial irregularities in the public sector. Its directives must be honoured by all government functionaries. Your recent issue reported that the government is unmoved by the PAC's directive, regarding action against sugar mills.
The details of the report are that the PM is not ready to take action against his fellow cabinet members or MNAs. That is good. One must stand by one's class.
The other day our esteemed paper reported that a retired colonel-MNA, heading a sub-committee meeting (of PAC), exonerated 3 retired high officials involved in a faulty deal of importing Chinese railway engines and a few other officers, involved in a Rs 12 million kick-back case.
