A sum of Rs 5.25 billion has been allocated for providing all necessary facilities in 2,500 Basic Health Units (BHUs), 300 Rural Health Units (RHUs) across Punjab.
Provincial Minister for Health Dr Tahir Ali Javed on Monday told PTV that Rs 03 billion would be spent on upgrading all RHUs within the next one year in the first phase. Each and every BHU would be upgraded next year aiming to ensure basic medical facilities to people of rural areas free of cost, he added.
Quality emergency services in 15 big hospitals of the province have already been ensured. Provisions of necessary medicine and complete treatment in emergency have been made absolutely free of cost for first 24 to 46 hours, he said.
The project of emergency ambulance service 1122 has proved very successful in Lahore. It has been decided to extend it in every District of the province.
The poor would be provided emergency ambulance services promptly that too sans any charge. Three more burn centres would be established in the province, he informed.
Efforts were underway to provide more and more facilities to the people of the province. Two medical colleges have been established. Five to six nursing colleges were being upgraded aiming to overcome acute shortage of nurses in the province.
Graduate nursing courses have also been initiated in various colleges of the province, he added.
