Martina Navratilova, who turns 50 in October, is confident she will be playing at Wimbledon this year, despite pulling out of the DFS Classic here with a knee problem. Navratilova, who had planned to begin her Wimbledon build-up by playing doubles at the WTA event, was forced to pull out because of swelling on the knee.
But she revealed that a scan had shown no significant damage and said she was certain of returning to the All England club for the 29th time. "I think I'll start hitting again on Thursday or Friday, and I'll be good for Wimbledon - 100 percent," she said. "I'm sure I'll be 100 percent and ready to go."
Navratilova added: "Most players if they play in 10 Wimbledons are very happy. I'm close to 30, but I'm not tired of it. "If I was then I wouldn't be here. For me, it's very simple. I'm doing what I love, and I love what I'm doing."
Navratilova, who won nine singles titles at Wimbledon, became the oldest Grand Slam champion when she claimed the mixed doubles title in partnership with India's Leander Paes in 2003.
She is planning to play in both the doubles and mixed doubles at this year's Wimbledon.
