The rupee lost its firmness versus the dollar in the interbank market on Thursday, shedding four paisa for buying and selling at 60.18 and 60.20, respectively. In the morning the session, the rupee did not show major change versus the dollar but strong buying by the importers pushed the local currency into minus column.
To meet their demand the banks bought nearly 30-40 million dollars. In the world markets, the dollar drifted lower versus the leading currencies, they said.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee held its firmness in relation to the dollar, gaining two paisa for buying and selling at 60.40 and 60.45, dealers said. The rupee continued its slide versus the euro, losing 10 paisa more for buying and selling at 76.05 and 76.15, respectively.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee failed to maintain upward slide and depreciated its value by five paisa, in relation to the greenback in the local currency markets, on Thursday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar's trading commenced at overnight closing level of Rs 60.45 and Rs 60.55 as its buying and selling rates, respectively. As a result of slight increase in dollar's demand, its rate moved up and finally closed at Rs 60.50 and Rs 60.60 on buying and selling counters, respectively, the dealers added.
Similarly, the rupee remained under pressure and lost its value against the pound sterling. The pound's buying rate improved from Wednesday's closing of Rs 111.10 to Rs 111.45 while its selling rate increased from 111.40 to Rs 111.74, the dealers added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee gained 15 paisa against the dollar at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Thursday.
The dollar opened at Rs 60.35 (buying) and Rs 60.45 (selling) against last rate of Rs 60.50 (buying) and Rs 60.60 (selling). It did not witness any further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 60.35 (buying) and Rs 60.45 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 111.50 (buying) and Rs 111.60 (selling) against last rate of Rs 111.25 (buying) and Rs 111.50 (selling). It did not observe any further change by the end of evening session and closed at Rs 111.50 (buying) and Rs 111.60 (selling).
