Pakistan and Russia have urged concerted efforts to thwart the threats of terrorism by addressing socio-economic deprivation and injustices responsible for growth of radical sentiments in the society.
Participants of meeting of Pakistan-Russia Joint Working Group here on Counter-Terrorism also called for a need for enhancing inter-civilisation dialogue to chalk out appropriate strategies to deal with extremism and terrorism.
Athar Mahmood, Additional Secretary Europe led the Pakistani delegation including ambassador of Pakistan to Moscow, and high officials of the Ministry of Interior and other agencies attended the meeting. The Russian side was led by Anatolay Sofanov, Special Representative of the Russian President, along with high officials of relevant ministries.
During the meeting, both sides examined the terrorist threats and drug trafficking and the measures being taken by the respective governments to counter it. Information on anti-terrorist measures taken by both the countries including improvement of national legislation was exchanged. Participants also discussed anti-terrorist measures in bilateral format as well as framework of multilateral including the United Nations.
