A Loya Jirga of the Pukhtoon Action Committee here on Sunday, accusing the Sindh government and the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) of failure in solving problems of Katchi Abadi residents and transporters, gave a wheel-jam strike call titled 'chabi mere jaib main' (key is in my pocket) on June 30, 2006.
Addressing a press briefing, Bacha Khan Markaz Pukhtoon Action Committee chairman Shahi Syed said deadline given by them passed on June 17, but the government failed to respond to it. He warned the government that a law and order situation might occur if it failed to solve problems of Pukhtoons and ending its drive to raze their houses in slum areas of the city.
He alleged millions of Pukhtoons living in different parts of Sindh, particularly Karachi, were being victimised by what he called state machinery. He demanded of the government to abandon a discriminatory attitude toward Pukhtoons.
Earlier, in four-hour discussion, participants of Loya Jirga demanded that all those families affected by the demolition of goths be given compensation and alternative plots. They also called for action against officials responsible for razing houses of Pukhtoons in slum areas.
Representatives of various political and religious parties, social organisations and transporters' organisation attended the jirga, including Awami National Party, Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), Tehrik-e-Insaf, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan, Karachi Transport Ittehad and others. They also endorsed the June 30 strike call.
