TOKYO: Tokyo stocks closed higher for a fifth straight session on Tuesday, recovering from an early sell-off as authorities said a powerful quake that triggered a tsunami along Japan's northeast coast caused limited damage.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index gained 0.31 percent, or 56.92 points, to end at 18,162.94, while the broader Topix index of all first-section issues rose 0.32 percent, or 4.57 points, to 1,447.50.
