Sindh Assembly Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah on Thursday suspended the membership of ruling party member of Provincial Assembly Eshwar Lal for the current budget session.
He announced suspension of his membership for the ongoing budget session on account of what he ruled his "unbecoming conduct" for sending a chit to opposition's lady MPA Shazia Marri on Wednesday.
The Assembly session resumed on Thursday with Speaker Muzaffar Shah in the chair. Immediately after recitation from Holy Quran and Naat, the Speaker referred to Wednesday's ugly scene in the House in which minority MPA from treasury benches Eshwar Lal was beaten up by opposition members for sending a chit to Shazia Marri. The session was in progress at that time and Syed Mardan Shah was speaking on the budget.
The Speaker said it was a highly deplorable and condemnable incident that Eshwar Lal sent a chit to Shazia Marri which caused reaction and he was beaten up by three to six members during which two mikes were also broken. He said some members intervened and thereafter Presiding Officer Irfan Gul Magsi adjourned the House.
Muzaffar Shah said the matter was brought to his notice while he was in his chamber and he ordered Secretary of the Assembly for an inquiry. He said he himself monitored the video of the incident and from the facts and circumstances as ascertained after seeing the video, he found the conduct of Eshwar Lal unbecoming and violative of the code of conduct for members. Under the circumstances, he said, he in exercise of authority vested in him, suspended Eshwar's membership for the entire current budget session and he would be barred from attending the session.
The Speaker further observed that it should have been more appropriate for aggrieved MPA Shazia Marri to bring the matter to the notice of the Presiding Officer, who would have taken appropriate action in the matter.
