An amount of Rs four billion has been earmarked for replacing rusty water pipeline in Karachi and Hyderabad, Local Government Sindh Secretary Muhammad Ishaq Lashari said on Thursday.
Talking to PTV, he said rupees two billion had already been approved for the purpose, while Rs two billion would also be spent for extending the project further.
One billion rupees had been allocated for augmenting the existing water facilities in the provinces, while Rs 620 million had also been earmarked for initiating the new schemes, he said. Federal government would provide Rs 2.81 billion for installing water filtration plants in 1,108 union councils of the province, he said.
First phase was continuing. There are 119 Tehsil Municipal Administration in Sindh. Specialised plants would be installed where arsenic, mineral was more. Around 92 filtration plants across the Sindh were near completion in various areas, he said.
Installations would be maintained with active participation of local community. Local administration would bear the cost of maintenance of water filtration plants.
Village Associations had already been established for proper monitoring and implementation of water filtration projects, he added.
