Various committees have been constituted in Punjab at district and tehsil level for ensuring proper monitoring of existing water filtration plants and early completion of sites selection for installing the remaining plants.
Director General, local government, rural development Muhammad Shahbaz on Thursday told PTV that local community had also been involved for ensuring smooth functioning of the filtration plants.
National University of Science and Technology (Nust) has been assigned to recheck the viability of the sites selected for installing water filtration plants.
A sum of Rs 4.5 billion would be spent on installing water filtration plants in 3,464 union councils of Punjab till 2007, he said.
Around 76 water filtration plants had already been installed in various areas of the province, while work was continuing on 24 plants. There were 144 tehsil municipal administrations (TMA's) in the province, he added.
Filtration plants worth Rs 2.6 million would be installed in the areas where water was more contaminated. Whereas the price of normal plant is not more than 0.85 million, he said.
Three different types of filtration plants of 3,000, 1,000 and 500 gallons were being installed keeping in view the requirements of population, he added.
