The NWFP Assembly on Saturday unanimously passed three identical resolutions demanded of the federal government to withdraw the decision of increase in the price of natural gas. The three identical resolutions were moved by Bashir Ahmad Bilour of ANP, Maulana Amanat Shah and Shagufta Naz of the ruling MMA.
The Speaker suspended the rules of business to allow three members to move their resolutions. Speaking on the matter, ANP parliamentarian leader Bashir Ahmad Bilour said the proposed 10 to 22.5 percent hike in the price of natural gas for different categories of consumers would increase the miseries of the general public, and demanded of the federal government to withdraw the this decision forthwith.
Maulana Amanat Shah and Shagufta Naz of MMA condemned the increase and demanded of the government to withdraw the decision in case it really interested in giving relief to the general public. The Speaker put the resolutions to vote and the whole house replied in 'yes' to pass the demand unanimously.
Meanwhile, Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry President Ghazanfar Bilour has expressed deep concern over 10 to 22.5 percent increase in the price of natural gas for different categories of consumers.
In a press release issued here, he said the decision of the federal government would open the gate for another flood of price-hike in the country directly affecting all three categories of consumers, including domestic, commercial and industrial.
The Sarhad Chamber chief said the people, who are already leading a miserable life in the prevailing price-hike, the decision would further shoot up the prices of the household goods hitting the purchasing power of the consumers.
Bashir Bilour said the implementation of the formula of the World Bank and other donor agencies regarding increase in the price of gas in the country is reprehensible act by the government. He said before taking such decision, the government should have looked into the purchasing power and earning of the common man, therefore, the government should withdraw the decision.
Welcoming the scraping of Pakistan Steel Mills sell-off deal by the apex court, he expressed the hope that the decision would help in stoppage of the selling of the profitable national institutes at throw away prices.
Congratulating the workers of Steel Mills, he urged the government to withdraw the decision of the privatisation of such a large national institution.
