A delegation of the Karachi Press Club (KPC) office-bearers on Tuesday called on Sindh Chief Minister, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim in his Sindh Assembly chamber and apprised him of problems faced by the journalist community.
Talking to the delegation, Dr Arbab said that the government fully believed in the press freedom and always played its due role for safeguarding their basic rights and solution to their problems.
He said that the provincial government would continue to strive for solving their issues. He said that till now an assistance of Rs 100 million had been released for the press clubs of the province and this gesture of goodwill was unprecedented.
Dr Arbab said journalists working in various newspapers of Sindh had played an important role to highlight issues faced by the province. He said that the Karachi Press Club was a parameter of journalism in Sindh, hence priority steps would be taken to solve its problems.
The delegation led by acting president of KPC Khurshid Abbasi and general secretary Najeeb Ahmed on the occasion demanded that the government advertisements should be linked to implementation of the Wage Award, so that the journalists working in the print media could be provided their rights. The delegation invited Dr Arbab to visit the KPC, which he accepted. Saeed Sarbazi, joint secretary KPC, Amir Latif and Miss Bilqees were also present.
