The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) will meet here on Thursday (June 29) with Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Dr Akram Sheikh in the chair to consider 24 development projects worth Rs 7.6 billion having foreign exchange component at Rs 571.715 million.
Official sources in the PC told Business Recorder on Monday that to start mass awareness campaign for water conservation and development; the government would launch a project costing Rs 194.22 million.
It is pertinent to note that Pakistan, which is becoming a water-scarce country, and there is an urgent need to inculcate awareness among general public about the importance of conservation.
The two other important projects to be considered by the CDWP are GSM Expansion for Azad Jammu and Kashmir costing Rs 565 million and Rs 567 million scheme for construction of national monument at Islamabad.
They said the CDWP would also take up the communication division's schemes of establishing construction machinery training centre at Quetta and Karachi each with estimated cost of Rs 610.623 million. In the energy sector, under Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) installation of capacitors at 132/66 KV grid station costing Rs 475.95 million would also come under consideration.
The CDWP will also consider the NRB's proposed scheme pertaining to good governance worth Rs 235.4 million. Capacity building of Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (Pide) Rs 92.68 million and framework for institutional co-operation project of P&D.
Establishment of poultry and dairy animals training and research centre at new campus at Pattoki in Punjab worth Rs 464.988 million, establishment of faculty of veterinary and animal sciences at University of Arid Agriculture, Rawalpindi of Rs 470.87 million, strengthening of existing earthquake engineering centre at NWFP University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar Rs 487.219 million, merit scholarships for scholars Rs 284.523 million and development of infrastructure for improved educational facilities at Kohar University of Science and Technology 459.916 million are the schemes to be taken up in the higher education sector.
In the physical planning and housing sector, five development schemes including construction of admin blocks, magazine quarter guard, barracks, horse stable and parade ground in Diplomatic Enclave with a cost of Rs 201.04 million, rehabilitation/replacement of lifts installed at Pak Secretariat building, Islamabad and construction of B type police stations in various sectors of the federal capital worth Rs 98.97 million are some of the projects which will be sponsored by the interior division.
Rs 815.478 million scheme of construction of second floor of Shaikh Zayed Hospital main building Lahore of the cabinet division and upgradation of BMSI and laboratory services at JPMC, Karachi worth Rs 59 million of health division will also be taken up by CDWP, which in its last meeting for the out-going fiscal.
