Nazim, Town-II City District Peshawar, Haji Mohammad Sharif on Tuesday presented an annual budget of Rs 100 million for financial year 2006-07. The total expenditure is Rs 99.236 million with a surplus amount of Rs 0.811 million.
Presenting the budget in the town council, Haji Mohammad Sharif said that during next financial year the TMA has given priority to the provision of better municipal services to the people. He said that the residents of the town find sanitation staff in all villages and streets.
During next financial year, he said the TMA has planned the recruitment of 60 people in the sanitation department for which he said a handsome amount has also been sanctioned in the budget.
Giving break up of the total receipt, he said that the total estimated income of the town from its own resources is Rs 39.695 million, share in octroi Rs 6.793 million, district government grant Rs 18.5 million, provincial government grant in head of Provincial Finance Commission (PFC) Rs 6.785 million, provincial government grant Rs 10 million. The town government during the current financial year has saved an amount of Rs 18.273 million.
Out of the total expenditure of Rs 99.236 million, an estimated amount of Rs 49.651 million would be spent in the head of non-developmental expenditure of the town. The figure also includes Rs 25.386 million to be paid in head of the salaries of the employees of the town.
In the development expenditure an estimated amount of Rs 3.525 million would be spent on the new development schemes and Rs 5.3 million for the ongoing schemes, Rs 1.175 for new CCB schemes and Rs 7.143 million for ongoing schemes, Rs 1.5 million for CIP, Rs 2.915 million for small and ordinary requirement, Rs 10 million for replacement of damaged water supply pipes.
Similarly, an estimated amount of Rs 5 million would be spent on the directives of Town Nazim and Naib Nazim, Rs 6.785 million of the PFC Award and Rs 6.241 million of PFC for the ongoing development schemes of the current financial year, Rs 49.585 million expenditure in head of Local fund and provincial annual development programme.
Regarding the provision of clean drinking water, the town nazim said that it is the basic requirement of the people saying they know that 90 percent diseases spread due to unhealthy drinking water. For the next financial year, he said the TMA has planned the replacement of all old and leak pipes. The provincial government for this purpose has promised Rs 10 million, besides Rs 10 million for the purchase of the vehicles for lifting city wastes for the district government.
For provision of better recreational facilities, he said TMA in collaboration with the provincial government has approved the establishment of a vast recreational park near Shah Alam. The provincial government had already handed over an amount of Rs 20 million to the City Development and Municipal Department (CD&MD).
