Local industrialists, exporters, manufacturers, and traders have strongly reacted on the frequent loadshedding in southern Punjab in general and in Multan in particular which has upset export consignments targeted to be shipped before the end of the current fiscal year.
Syed Muhammad Fazil Shah, Senior Vice Chairman of All Pakistan Bedsheet & Upholstry Manufacturers Association (Apbuma), Mian Muhammad Arif, Chairman of Multan Traders Chamber, Khawaja Muhammad Shafiq central leader of Traders Alliance have said in their statements that frequent and undeclared load shedding has badly hit their business besides increasing the manufacturing cost.
They said that export oriented goods manufacturing units operating in Multan, Sahiwal, Rahimyar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur are suffering production shortage due to intermittent failure of power supply and are in dire straits because of tight schedule in export consignments fixed to be shipped before June 30. They have expressed concern over the load shedding in Masoom Shah Road, Delhi Gate, Mumtazabad, Chungi No 14, Manzoorabad where large number of power looms units are located. In this scenario, the foreign buyers are claiming compensation from the local textile exporters for not shipping their consignments in time.
