Poland is keen to expand trade and economic ties with Pakistan, and to cooperate in oil, gas, energy, infrastructure, maritime, engineering, food processing sectors as well as developing small and medium enterprises.
This was stated by Polish Consul General in Karachi, Ireneusz Makles, while addressing members of Korangi Association of Trade & Industry (Kati) on Wednesday.
He called for more interaction among business communities who, he said, should jointly work to further promote business and trade between Pakistan and Poland. "There is need to also focus on developing projects in agriculture, water supply, resource management, sewage treatment plants, and transfer of new technology," he added.
Makles said there has been 250 percent increase in annual bilateral trade turnover since year 2003. In the 11 months of 2005-06, trade turnover was $121.95 million.
"Poland is a huge market and presents big opportunity for Pakistani products. I feel our capabilities in further developing economic and trade ties are not fully realised. There is need to establish joint ventures in many fields to boost economic co-operation,' he said.
The Polish CG said that vast opportunities exist in textile, leather, furniture, clothing, construction, food processing, hotels, beverages, pro-ecology projects and building materials.
"For us, Pakistan has enormous potential to become true economic leader in Asia, owing to its consistent trade and economic policies, which are most favourable in the region,' Makles observed.
He said that Polish and Pakistani companies will implement three pro-ecological industrial plants of recycling bottles type 'pet' 1, to obtain recycled conjured silicones hollow fibre in Karachi, constructing factory also in Karachi to recycle type 'pet' to obtain acid tereflat for pharmaceutical industry and constructing factory to recycle scraps type tetrapack in Pakistan to obtain pure aluminium and deoxidising agent to steel.
