The National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a UK-based charity to help eradicate child labour in Balochistan and NWFP.
Both the NCHD and Save the Children, UK will collaborate for the implementation of literacy component of the "Mitigating Child Labour through Education in Pakistan" project in two provinces.
This project is being implemented in Pakistan under an agreement between the Save the Children, UK and the United States Department of Labour in order to provide direct education services to 15,000 working and at risk children in Balochistan, NWFP and Fata through partner NGOs.
Literacy and vocational training are key components of the project. It has been envisaged to open 125 literacy centres in both provinces to educate 25,00 working children.
The NCHD with its mandate of "Literate Pakistan" is enlarging the scale and scope of efforts made by the government to ensure the effective provision of social services. As per the MoU, the NCHD will train 125 literacy teachers in Balochistan and NWFP.
