Malaysian share prices closed 0.46 percent higher on Friday, supported by firmer regional markets and mid-year window-dressing activity in selected blue chips, dealers said.
The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index gained 4.15 points to 914.69. Volume was 749.69 million shares worth 1.11 billion ringgit (308 million dollars) while gainers outnumbered losers 491 to 232.
Teoh Cheng Guan, head of retail research at KN Kenanga, however, warned that the market's direction was uncertain.
Due to the seasonal window dressing activity by fund managers, he said it was difficult to judge whether or not the buying support enjoyed by the market Friday was sustainable. "For the time being, I think the best thing to do is watch World Cup soccer matches, rather than rush into the market to buy shares," Teoh said.
Among blue chips, Tenaga was flat at 9.20 ringgit, while Maybank was steady at 10.70 ringgit. Telekom Malaysia was up 0.05 ringgit at 9.05.
