100 percent raise in toll tax condemned

Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Monday condemned 100 percent raise in toll tax on heavy vehicles entering in Islamabad through G.T. Road. Abdul Rauf, president ICCI said in a statement on Monday that it has created problem for the citizens of Islamabad as CDA has increased entry tax by 100 percent without any prior notice.
He appealed Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao and the CDA chairman Kamran Lashari to immediately withdraw the decision. He further said that CDA has announced tax-free budget a few days back but raising 100 percent entry tax is an irrational act.
Referring to the Municipal bylaws, he said, public opinion is to be sought before imposing or increasing any such tax, but the CDA Revenue Department had ignored this rule.
