The Planning Commission (PC) in collaboration with textile ministry would launch 'contract farming' programme to achieve excellence in producing better and clean cotton.
Sources in the Commission told Business Recorder on Monday that PC is in contact with the textile ministry to implement the proposal of contract farming to produce better contamination free-varieties with desired length of the fibre.
"It is win-win situation both for the farmers and the industry", the sources said adding that we wanted to implement this programme in collaboration with the industry.
It is not a novel idea as it is already being pursued by maize and sugarcane consuming industry by providing growers hybrid seeds and other inputs and All Pakistan Textile Manufacturers Association (Aptma) has been advised to work-out details of the programme accordingly, they added.
Planning Commission sources were hopeful that the idea would help in providing contamination-free cotton, proper usage of inputs, improving management practices and best pest control.
It would not only ensure good prices of cotton seed (phutti) but also improve the quality of the produce by providing certified seeds and timely usage of inputs like fertiliser and pesticides, they said.
