Sindh Home Minister Abdul Rauf Siddiqui was warned of possible incident of terrorism on the eve of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) at Nishtar Park, here, Pakistan Sunni Movement Chairman Syed Shah Sirajul Haq on Tuesday told Inquiry Tribunal of Justice Rehmat Hussain Jaffery for Nishtar Park tragedy.
Recording the statement before the Tribunal, Siraj said after receiving information from Tariq Mehboob, president, Anjuman Naujawan-e-Islam that conspiracy was hatched to sabotage the congregation of Nishtar Park. He informed Sindh home minister on April 10, 2006, about his apprehension and demanded maximum security for the programme.
He said the provincial home minister ensured him that fool-proof arrangements were made on the eve of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) and high alert was declared in the city.
Sirajul Haq told the Tribunal after the blast he called Rauf Siddiqui and told him that his apprehensions regarding occurrence of terrorism incident had materialised but the minister did not comment about this and said he is coming toward NP.
He said provincial administration did not provide required security in spite of several requests and Nishtar Park was not properly secured to prevent any untoward incident. He also told the Tribunal that threat has been received to Maulana Altaf Qadri, complainant of the case by Mufti Munir Shakir Group of Fata against whose objectionable remarks for Barelvi sect, Jamat-e-Ahle-Sunnat held conference in Karachi.
The said incident was reported to police high officials, he added. Keeping in view of such threats, he said the Sindh government was requested for providing maximum fool-proof security on the eve of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH).
