Oil tanker contractors threaten strike

Oil Tanker Contractors Association (OTCA) has rejected raise in income tax on transport to six percent from two percent and threatened to go on strike if the decision was not withdrawn within next 72 hours.
Speaking at a meeting of the association here on Wednesday, OTCA President Syed Ainullah Agha termed the increase in tax under SRO issued by Central Board of Revenue (CBR), which came into effect from July 1, as unjust. He said the government on one hand was claiming to provide a relief to masses, but on the other raised the taxes, which would have negative impact on poor people.
He said oil tankers already paid several taxes including oil tankers model tax, spare parts tax, toll tax, highway tax and tyre tax, whereas the contractors contributed billions of rupees in form of tax.
