Sialkot district government has initiated a vigorous drive against the sale of adulterated fertilisers in Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils. As many as 235 samples have been collected during the drive and sent to Lahore for laboratory test, said District Nazim Muhammad Cheema, while presiding over a meeting here on Wednesday.
He warned strict action against those involved in the business of fake fertiliser in the district. The district Nazim said that under Punjab Chief Minister's vision 2020 a comprehensive programme had been initiated for tracking the agriculture sector on scientific lines and to introduce new agricultural technologies for increasing per acre yield of crops.
He said that special attention would be accorded on effective agricultural research, improvement of irrigation system and ensuring sufficient availability of quality seeds in the district.
Apart from this, he said, growers would be imparted necessary training about the use of modern machinery, preparation of agricultural fields, utilisation of fertilisers and purchase of quality seed as well as improvement of irrigation system. For this, agriculture experts would be deputed to provide training to growers enabling them to enhance per acre yield more easily, he revealed.
Akmal Cheema said that during current fiscal year 67 watercourses- 50 watercourses in canal areas and 17 in Barani areas- would be completed in the district at a cost of Rs46.1 million. In order to set up agriculture laboratory, Rs 3 million had been set aside for the purpose while Rs 7 million earmarked for the establishment of veterinary centres in the district, he said.
The district government would repair and reconstruct farm-to-market roads costing Rs 130 million. The District Nazim directed the Agriculture department to take necessary steps for extending guidance and co-operation to farmers for enhancing per acre yield of crops in the district.
