Five persons were killed and eight severely injured when a tractor-trolley, bound for Badami Bagh on Lahore Road, fell into the Dek Nullah here early in the morning on Wednesday.
Police said the driver of the trolley (5121), carrying a load of iron bars of Chaudhry Steel and Iron Mills, probably dosed off while driving, and the vehicle veered off the road and fell in the nullah.
Five people, including driver Ghulam Abbas and mill workers Muhammad Asif, Naeem, Saleem and Haji Iqbal, died on the spot, while the injured were identified as Ghulam Qadir, Mubarak, Khadim, Muhammad Ashraf, Ghaffar, Shahid, Abdur Rasheed and one other. The injured have been admitted to the DHQ Sheikhupura hospital.
