WestJet Airlines Ltd's jets flew with more passengers in June, and the airline said on Thursday it will add flights to US destinations beginning in late October.
The 10-year-old no-frills carrier said its load factor, a measure of the proportion of seats sold on aircraft, rose 3.6 percentage points to 77.1 percent in June from 73.5 percent in June 2005. WestJet's passenger traffic rose 26 percent to outpace a 20 percent rise in fleet capacity.
The airline said it would augment its winter schedule with new non-stop transborder flights to US destinations such as West Palm Beach, Orlando, Tampa and Phoenix starting on October 29. It also plans to add departures to destinations such as Las Vegas and Fort Lauderdale.
Meanwhile, ACE Aviation Holdings Inc unit Air Canada, the country's dominant airline, which was also expected to release its June traffic figures on Thursday, said it would resume daily flights to Toronto's City Centre Airport on Aug, 28.
Regional carrier Air Canada Jazz will provide daily service between Montreal, Ottawa and the City Centre Airport, which is located on an island near the city's downtown core.
