Muttahida Qaumi Movement will put up candidates throughout the county in the 2007 general elections, MQM parliamentary leader Farooq Sattar said. Addressing a news conference here on Wednesday he expressed the confidence that the MQM manifesto would win votes.
Forecasting "pleasant surprises" by the party in the elections, he said only those political parties, which stand for "functional, decentralised and participatory democracy" would emerge victorious. He said the time for feudal politics was over.
Sattar, who earlier addressed party workers, criticised the so-called charter of democracy of PPPP and PML-N, saying it contains "hints of giving birth to political dictatorship".
He said, "it is not a 'Misaq-e-Jamhooriat', but, a 'Mazaq-e-Jamhooriat'.
The leaders of two parties, he said, espoused non-political attitudes, showing "intolerance for other political forces" which "does not augur well".
Farooq Sattar alleged that a smear campaign against MQM was being carried out by its opponents and said the party would not be deterred by such tactics.
On Thursday, Farooq Sattar addressed the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, Washington.
Mohammad Anwar, member of MQM Rabita Committee, London; MOM North Americas caretaker, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Central Organiser Aijaz Siddiqi were also present at the news conference.
