The Indus River System Authority (Irsa) on Friday increased water share of Sindh and Punjab by 8,000 and 4,000 cusecs, respectively, but it is still short of their indents. "We have increased shares of Sindh and Punjab, which would be enough to meet their seasonal requirements," Khalid Rana, Irsa spokesman told Business Recorder.
He said that Sindh would now receive 158,000 cusecs water, against its earleir share of 150,000 cusecs, while Punjab would draw 140,000 cusecs against 136,000 cusecs.
He said that outflow from Tarbela reservoir had been enhanced from 140,000 to 186,000 cusecs as inflows had also increased due to snow melting. Water level at Tarbela at early hours of Friday recorded at 1438.3 MAF whereas the dead level of the reservoir is 1369 MAF. The outflow was 140,000, against the inflow of 204,900.
At Kalabagh, upstream discharge was recorded at 178,154 cusecs while downstream flow was 170,154 cusecs. Upstream discharge at Taunsa was 173,741 whereas downstream flow was 150,633 cusecs.
