The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended on July 6, 2006 for lowest income group up to Rs 3,000 has registered 0.17 percent increase over previous week. The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 144.17 as against 143.92 recorded in the previous week according to Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).
The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000-2001=100 covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.
During the week under review average prices of 9 items registered decrease, while those of 17 items increased with the remaining 27 items prices unchanged.
The items, which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review included LPG (11 KG cylinder), tomatoes, egg (farm) gur, cooking oil (tin), red chillies powdered, wheat flour (av. qlt), voil printed and powdered milk (Nido).
The items which registered increase in their prices included onions, match box, sugar, garlic, chicken farm, moong pulse washed, masoor pulse washed, mutton, tea (packet), shirting, potatoes, mash pulse washed, bananas, vegetable ghee (loose), rice basmati broken, wheat and mustard oil.
The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included rice Irri-6, gram pulse washed, beef, bread plain med. size, milk fresh, curd, veg. ghee (tin), salt (powdered), tea (prepared), cooked beef (plate), cooked dal (plate), cigarettes K-2, coarse latha, lawn, sandal gents (Bata), sandal ladies (Bata), Chappal Sponge (Bata), kerosene, firewood, electric bulb (60-Watts), washing soap (nylon), bath soap (Lifebuoy), gas charges up to 3.3719 MMBTU, electric charges 1-100, petrol, diesel and telephone charges.
