imageKARACHI: Federal Minister for Defence Rana Tanveer Hussain on Thursday said that Pakistan's annual defence exports reached to dollars 100 million over last three years.

"When Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Government came in power three years back, defence exports were only $ 25 million," he said while talking to media at 9th International Defence Exhibition IDEAS-2016 at Karachi Expo Centre.

He said," our JF-17 Thunder is not less than F-16. It has also much lower price than that of F-16."

He appreciated the big participation of foreign and local defence production companies at the IDEAS-2016. Many local companies had also showcased their products which had attracted foreign buyers, he expressed his satisfaction. The minister pointed out that many countries including Europe had also shown interest in Pakistan-made aircraft Super Mashak and JF-17 Thunder. These were being upgraded, he said.

Turkey had signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, Kamrah to purchase fifty two Super Mashak from PAC, he said.

He said the government was also targeting the local industry to grow so that Pakistan could become self-dependent in defence production.

PAC had got big response from within and outside the country.

Today, PAC Chairman is scheduled to meet 40 businessmen in an effort to involve local private sector in defence production, he added.
