Customs Intelligence personnel seized huge haul of narcotics, 525 kilograms of hashish and 43-kg opium from truck on GT Road and arrested three alleged drug pushers here on Friday.
The Customs personnel on a tip off foiled the attempt of smuggling of narcotics and intercepted the truck bearing Regd No LEM 8871 on GT Road connecting provincial metropolis with Punjab near Taro Jaba, Nowshera district, said an official.
Briefing reporters, the official said that the truck was looking empty, but during the search at the customs intelligence office in University Town, Peshawar they found narcotics in the specially created hideouts in the vehicle.
The agency has arrested three alleged smugglers Mohammad Riaz son of Fateh Sher Khan, Shakir son of Ghulam Sarwar and Gulzar son of Jan Mohammad, resident of Chak No 386/WB, Tehsil Dinalpur, Lodhran district on the spot.
The agency has got five-day physical remand of the alleged smugglers and further investigations were in progress. The Customs Intelligence official said that few days back they had foiled another attempt of smuggling of 89 kilograms hashish.
He said that Director General, Customs Intelligence, Major General Usman was taking keen interest in the anti-smuggling efforts to control the movement of prohibited commodities.
