Indus River System Authority (Irsa) Chairman Shafqat Mehmood said on Saturday that Sindh and Punjab would have sufficient water for the cultivation of Kharif crops. In a telephonic interview to PTV, he said Sindh and Punjab were already getting required amount of water, which had further been enhanced by 8,000 and 4,000 cubic feet respectively.
He said the water-flow in river Indus was encouraging and the water needed of both Sindh and Punjab would be met during the entire Kharif season, adding that hopefully the set targets in Kharif crops would be achieved.
To a question, he said 70 percent capacity of water of the Mangla dam had been filled while the remaining part would hopefully get filled during the Kharif season.
He said the filling of Tarbela dam was usually during July and August, adding that presently 25 percent of the reservoir had been filled. If the prevailing trends of water-flow in Indus river continued, the reservoir would hopefully be filled during August, he added.
