Secretary of Health Anwar Mehmood has said that the government will introduce severe punishment against organs sale. To a question as what the government of Pakistan and its Health Ministry are doing in connection with the business of human organs going on in Pakistan.
Will it take notice of these incidents? Will take any immediate step to frame law against the doctors who are involved in such inhuman and immoral activities? Anwar Mehmod said that obviously no condemnation was enough for this but as you have asked this question with reference to the Ministry of Health.
"I would like to tell you that there is a dire need of a law in this country in this connection, Al-Hamdo Lillah the draft has already been prepared.
The cabinet has approved the law and the Ministry of Law too, has studied it. We have now submitted it to the parliament. We hope that it will be approved in the next session of the National Assembly, because this is not controversial in the house.
All the members of the House whether they belong to the treasury benches or the opposition are in agreement that such a law ought to be framed" he said.
He pointed out that the ban has already been imposed adding that moreover, this practice was also wrong morally.
He said that the special law which was needed has also been drafted and there was complete ban on it, adding that a procedure would be evolved, there will be a mechanism as to who can give and how and then there will be a regulatory body which will certify that he/she can give and that this work is not being done on the basis of trade.
"Yes, it is serious. Unfortunately there are persons in our country who exploit people. They are involved in the sale and purchase of kidneys. Several such reports were received in the past, too, when we get report we make efforts in collaboration with the local administration to apprehend such people. However, legislation will also be passed in this respect" Anwar Mehmood. He said that they would be arrested forthwith and they were going to prescribe very tough punishment for this.
