The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) parliamentary leader Farooq Sattar has said they will oppose postponement of 2007 elections and adds as an ally party of the present government but it has also supported the united opposition's demand for an independent election commission.
Talking to BBC, Farooq Sattar said that Pakistanis would accept the impact of political polarisation wherever they live as the fault lies in the country.
"You have to choose one thing. When President Musharraf presented his seven point agenda on October 14 to the nation, it was very close to our party's manifesto. The Charter of Democracy does not represent the needs and requirements of 98 percent of people of Pakistan, as did the seven-point charter of the President.
He said that the doctrine of necessity was not based on personal interests, it did not support any group's interest but it was for a great objective, adding that through this expectations have been attached with the military General who was moderate, enlightened and progressive, at least he claims to be so. And he wants to establish real democracy.
He pointed out that the MQM was a party of poor and middle class people by joining hand with him it could bring a revolution.
"Perks and privileges are due to the fact the MQM is the only party in Pakistan that has left the governments for three times. If it felt necessary to leave this government we would do so. What time it is to be done, we would decide. Ideologically it is true to support a General for continuity of political and democratic process, Farooq Sattar said.
To a question, he said that yes, there was democracy, you may say so-called or lame but you cannot deny that democracy was there and it was not a complete military rule.
"If we leave government then would the situation improve!, the problem is that if the democracy was passing through a transitory phase should we support it or reject it? We have adopted it as a bitter pill, we have been trying to find out a better way out. The 2007 elections are very crucial in the history of Pakistan, all the elements including army has a role and stack in the coming elections.
