The Environmental Protection Committee of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has shown grave concern over the non-functioning of environmental tribunal Lahore.
"The Environmental Tribunal Lahore has not been functional for quite some time due to vacant seat of its chairman and the absence of member technical at the provincial metropolis. The Federal government did not make appointment of the chairman after the retirement of Syed Zamir Hussain, causing delay and piling up of a number of cases."
This was stated in a meeting held here on Sunday with LHCBA Environmental Protection Committee Chairman, Akhtar H Awan advocate in the chair.
The Committee highlighting the significance and impact of increasing environmental pollution caused by less greenery, smoke-emitting vehicles, particularly two-stroke rickshaws, factories lacking treatment plants and un-proportional population growth.
The LHCBA Environmental Protection Committee Chairman said that currently more than 400 cases were pending with the Environmental Tribunal Lahore.
He, however, urged the government to fill the vacant seats of the environmental tribunal and make it functional immediately.
