Women development: Rs 2.2 million to be provided in every district, says minister

Federal Minister for Women Development and Youth Affairs, Sumera Malik has said that government would provide Rs 2.2 million for women development in every district to train and educate them.
"It is imperative to educate women and involve them in development and socio-economic activities", she said while addressing the inaugural session of a 4-day training programme for lady councillors here on Monday.
The Federal Government is holding country-wide training programme for lady councillors in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Sumera said that participation of women in politics and other affairs has presented a bright image of Pakistan as a moderate country.
"In the past, women were not given chance to take part in political and national development, resultantly the country could not develop and prosper", she added.
Speaking on the occasion, Muhammad Basharat Raja, Provincial Minister for Local Government said that the main reason of holding this training programme was to educate the elected representatives in a way to involve them in development process.
Country Director, UNDP Hau Ling Shu, while addressing the participants, said that after training, lady councillors would guide the society in a better way. United Nations is emphasising on active participation of women in political and socio economic affairs, he said.
City District Nazim, Raja Javed Akhlas, Director General Local Government Shahbaz Ahmed and DCO Hamid Ali Khan also addressed the function.
