The Ministry of Population Welfare will commemorate the World Population Day on Tuesday. Sources told Business recorder that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz here will inaugurate National Population Convention, besides, seminars and workshops on population will be held in the four provinces.
The Day is celebrated globally on July 11 every year, which provides an opportunity to highlight concerns of rapid growth. At the same time, it provides an opportunity to take stock of the situation.
They said that youth's grooming is the prime responsibility of the government and youth-related problems will be given top-priority during the current fiscal year.
Despite all-out efforts by the government, number of unemployed youth has risen to 3.6 percent. Due to the rising rate of unemployment, they are more vulnerable to psychological disorders especially depression leading to high incidence of crime, terrorism and suicide.
Despite huge allocations for Poverty Reduction Programme, the government has failed to achieve the poverty alleviation targets as 35 million people are still living below the poverty line.
According to some reports there is no increase in per capita income of the masses rather the country is passing through worst inflationary era with high increase in daily use items prices.
The sources said that a mid-term development framework has been finalised for public sector with an allocation of Rs 330 million for social sector programme with USAID, DFID and UNFPA grant. The programme will be implemented in 110 districts. It is designed to strengthen interaction at community level, identify and involve all the stakeholders.
