Hungary wheat harvest starts

Hungary's farmers have started harvesting wheat, but hot weather in recent weeks may have damaged grain quality, farmers' association MOSZ said on Tuesday.
Yield projections are unchanged at 4.2-4.3 tonnes per hectare, down from 4.5 tonnes last year, MOSZ Chief Adviser Andras Uhercsak said. But some grain might not have developed fully because of the lack of moisture, he said.
Farmers have harvested two-thirds of the barley crop, with yields around 3.9 tonnes per hectare, in line with the Agriculture Ministry's estimate in late June, Uhercsak said. The quality issues did not affect barley as it had ripened earlier than wheat, he added.
