Necessary precautionary measures should be taken during the monsoon season to deal with the problems and diseases created by the rainy season, doctors and patients at local hospitals appealed to the city government during a survey of different parts of the city carried out revealed.
It is true that the local government is striving to solve the problems of the citizens, but it is also a fact that the number of civic issues is not coming down.
These worrying problems are not new for the citizens of Nazimabad, North Karachi, Malir, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, Jamshed Road and several other parts of the city.
The heaps of garbage are everywhere, as sometimes city health department employees do not know where they should go to dump the garbage. As a result, they are not collecting garbage from houses in the absence of proper guidance.
The residents of these areas have requested the Town Nazims or his staff to make it clear which spots or points are proper or specific to dump the area's garbage.
Monitoring teams must be set up to look into these problems and handle the issues with earnestness. It is a fact that when a monitor keeps a watch over the classroom, the 'students' maintain discipline. This experience may help in dealing with short and long issues, caused by the delay in the development works, some teachers said.
Some time ago, a few areas of Karachi, such as Defence and Clifton, were giving an impression of cleanliness, but heaps of garbage are also lying in those areas and nobody knows when the garbage would be removed from there.
The Karachiites are already facing chronic problems due to lack of proper development works during the previous government, some old citizens, including lecturers and professors of different areas said and added that the heaps of garbage are on the roads and streets of almost every area of the city, which could be hazardous for health.
The monsoon has almost started. Suppose if the rain persisted for a long time, cholera and other diseases may break out in the city and may cause jitters among the people. The old people and children cannot move easily in the absence of proper sewerage system during and rainy season and smooth roads.
According to some doctors, since the monsoon season has started, the number of patients has increased, suffering from cholera and other diseases, due to rotten fruits and contaminated water, when available.
Usually, children are fond of mangoes. Poor parents cannot buy mangoes in good shape, but to fulfil the children's wish, they buy at the cheaper rates and this causes health problems for the children.
