Turkish wheat prices stayed above the price offered by the state grain office due to strong demand from buyers as the wheat harvest has started in all regions of Turkey, traders said on Thursday.
Turkey had produced enough quality wheat this season despite a heat wave that damaged crops and caused worries over quality of the produce, said Polatli exchange trader Ayhan Atalay.
"The quality is good. Good-quality produce comes in little volume like every year but there's enough of wheat," said Atalay.
Excess quantities of barley, however, have kept the cost below state prices, forcing the agricultural office to buy supplies of the crop.
Second degree red milling wheat dropped nearly 4 percent on the Polatli exchange to an average price of 0.3771 lira per kg this week.
The state grain office TMO buys the crop at 0.3750 lira per kg.
Third degree barley rose nearly 2 percent to 0.2549 per kg this week. The TMO has bought 1.043 million tonnes of wheat and 478,755 tonnes of barley since the start of this year's season.
