Pakistan Muslim League (PML) Secretary General and Chairman of Senate Foreign Relations Committee Mushahid Hussain has strongly condemned the Mumbai bomb blasts and termed the act as crime against humanity.
In an interview to New Delhi Television (NDTV) and talking with media persons here on Sunday, he urged India not to derail the peace process between the two countries.
He said that terrorists have no religion and know no boundaries, and this is a grave, universal threat that can only be countered collectively.
He said whether it is terrorism in Mumbai or Karachi, both India and Pakistan are victims of terrorism, and they can curb, contain and crush terrorism only if they join hands against this enemy of mankind.
Referring to the trial by allegation in the Indian media in the aftermath of Mumbai's terrorism, he said that hawkish elements in Indian establishment must avoid temptation to use the Mumbai terrorism for Pakistan-bashing.
He said that without any evidence or proof these hawkish elements in Indian Establishment had already started to reverse some segments of the peace process by cancelling scheduled Foreign Secretary level talks and stopping Indian parliamentarians from attending the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Pakistan.
PML Secretary General said this would be an unfortunate development since the people of the two countries have been involved in the peace process and confidence-building measures (CBMs) which were being painstakingly pursued by leaders of both countries with support of the two countries' peoples.
He said: "The reversal of the peace process by India is disappointing, and is contrary to the interests of peace, stability and security of South Asia and the aspirations of the peoples of India and Pakistan."
Mushahid said that India should realise that any attempt at 'action replay' of December 2001 would be counter-productive.
He urged the Indian Establishment to avoid traditional "blame game", and said, "there is no option other than dialogue and the continuation of the peace process between the two countries".
