Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that there was no difficulty for the present assemblies to elect President Pervez Musharraf. He was addressing a press conference here on Sunday. Senator Khalid Ranjha, a leading lawyer was also present alongside the CM on the occasion.
The CM said supremacy of parliament was unchangeable and it had all the political as well as constitutional justification to elect the president, he pointed. Elahi referring to certain political elements said that they were intentionally issuing mala fide statements that had no logic or reason to arise controversy out of presidential election.
He said president had taken difficult decisions for the betterment and future of Pakistan and now it was mandatory for the development and progress of the country that Pervez Musharraf should stay in as president for next five years.
He said there was only one Muslim League that was being led by Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain in the country.
He said after arriving an understanding with PPPP, PML-N in fact had merged into Benazir Bhutto's party, he added. He said the people, who after making a contract with the government, had left the country for ten years, how could they return before elections.
Elahi said that present assemblies would be the only assemblies that were to complete their full term. He said if certain people were ready to give resignations, they should do it most willingly as better people would then be elected and placed in assembly as against their seats.
He said as the events were taking fold, it appeared that resignation of seats by opposition might not occur.
