Another sponsorship conference for ensuring smooth reconstruction of devastated infrastructure in earthquake-affected areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and NWFP would be convened on November 19 aiming to mobilise indigenous organisations.
Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority's (Erra) Deputy Chairman Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed told CNBC TV that around 600,000 houses would be reconstructed with estimated cost of 2.4 billion dollars.
He said around Rs 23 billion had already been paid to 275,000 families as a first instalment, adding the survey of more than 450,000 houses had already been completed.
The compensation payment in urban areas would start in August 2006 after completion of housing survey, he said. Around 1,300 schools had been completed this year including 350 schools through co-operation of various organisations. Around 650 more schools would be built in collaboration with various donors. Hundred percent hospitals would be reconstructed through sponsorship of various organisations, he said.
About 3,800 water supply schemes would be completed in the affected areas. About half of the schemes had already been adopted by various organisations, he added.
