Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Sardar Sikander Hayat Khan, former chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Aziz Khan and veteran Muslim Conference (MC) leader Raja Zulqarnain are being tipped to be fielded as a candidate for the slot of the AJK president by majority Muslim Conference.
The election of the AJK president would be held on July 27. Nomination papers for the AJK presidential slot would be filed on July 26. Candidature could be withdrawn by July 27, before the polling. The members of the AJK Legislative Assembly and the Kashmir Council would exercise their right of vote as members of the Presidential Electoral College.
Begum Shamshad Aziz wife of General Aziz (retd) is likely to be fielded by the MC, as candidate on reserved women seats of the AJK Legislative Assembly. Addressing a meeting at Kotli, AJK Prime Minister Sardar Sikander Hayat Khan has said that he has no lust for power. He, however, made it clear that if the parliamentary party of the Muslim Conference assigns any responsibility to him, he would accept it.
