All Pakistan Contractors Association (Apca) has demanded of the government to immediately secure release of illegally detained two officials of M/s Sachal in Nepal for having links with the Mumbai blasts.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Apca Chairman Ahmed Ghazaal Usmani, along with other members of the Association, also requested the government of Nepal, Foreign Ministry of Pakistan and ambassador of Pakistan in Nepal to ensure safe return of these officials.
The officials of M/s Sachal Engineering Works (Pvt) Limited, which was awarded construction contract of World Bank funded 44-km long road in 1995, were arrested in Nepal for allegedly having links with the Mumbai bomb blasts. Both the officials of the company, Atta Mohiuddin Siddiqui and Ghulam Hussain Cheema, were allegedly arrested in connection with a case, which seems to be based on misinformation, Usmani added.
The arrested officials were in Nepal from July 8 to settle the claim of Rs 71 million M/s Sachal owed to the Ministry of Works and Transport of Nepal and previously they also visited from 2001 onward to settle the issue, he said.
About the raiding of company's office by the Nepalese police in 2001 and then registering a case, Abdul Karim Khadim, a representative of the company, said that Nepalese police raided in the absence of company's officials and only guard was present at that time.
The victim officials also visited Nepalese police station to produce evidences of not being present during the raid. If both the officials were required in any case in Nepal why were they not arrested during their earlier visits to Nepal, he asked.
