Taking serious note of ever increasing traffic problems in the city, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan on Friday directed the concerned authorities to complete the under-construction roads in three months.
He issued such directives while presiding over a high level meeting at the Governor House. Advisor on Local Government, Waseem Akhtar, Chief Secretary, Fazlur Rehman, Principal Secretary, Muhammad Saleem Khan, Secretary Labour, Transport, Nasar Hayat, Chief Controller, KBCA, Mumtaz-ur-Rehman, CCPO Niaz Ahmed Siddiqui and others were present.
Governor Ibad suggested providing the traffic police with modern technology so that it could face the present day challenges. He directed to equip the traffic police with more vehicles and other required facilities. He reviewed the progress of work with regard to making Shahrea Faisal a model road and directed to increase parking capacity along both sides of the road.
City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal on this occasion told that CDGK has initiated work for construction of parking plaza in different areas of the city to cope with increasing traffic pressure. Construction of one of such plaza in Saddar area has been kicked off and hopefully would be completed in six months. He told that in future parking provision has been made compulsory for approval of any project.
DCO Karachi informed the meeting that there were 200 illegal bus terminals in the city and their shifting would be completed by August 20 while the construction of roads would be completed by October.
Governor Ibad directed that two-way traffic should not be stopped at Sharea Faisal during VIP movement. He also suggested involving oil companies and other private sector companies in construction of overhead bridges for pedestrians. He further directed to complete the work of I.I. Chundrigar road by August 31.
