The Capital City Police Karachi (CCPK) has recovered one SMG, one rocket launcher, nine rifles, six repeater guns, 201 pistols, six revolvers, while arresting 68 culprits, and killing nine dacoits in police encounters during last 20 days.
This was apprised by the DIG Operations Karachi Mushtaq Ahmed Shah in the absence of CCPO Niaz Ahmed Siddiki at a press briefing held here at the Committee Room of DIGP Operations on Friday.
He said nine policemen had also been injured during the crack down on criminals. Expressing satisfaction over the police performance during the period, he said police had also arrested 274 dacoits, and criminals involved in other cases, while it had also nabbed 161 absconders. Giving information on rape cases, he said 10 such cases had been lodged with the police, while out of them only two cases could be detected.
On detection of murder cases, he said 36 murder cases had been reported while only 12 murder cases could be detected, however 50 accused of murder have been arrested. Shah informed that 85 four-wheeler vehicles had been snatched, and 188 had been stolen in the city, while police could recover only 117 vehicles. Regarding two-wheeler vehicles, he said so far 207 vehicles had been snatched, and 217 vehicles had been stolen while police succeed in recovering only 186.
He said 50 house dacoity cases, and robbery cases had been reported while police could detect only five of them, adding that seven shops dacoity and robbery cases during last 20 days had been reported, while out of them only four cases had been detected.
About recovery of narcotics, he said police had recovered 0.185 KGs of heroin, 95.366 KGs of Charas, and 169 bottles of liquor. He said 115 street crimes had been reported including snatching of 235 mobile phones, cash and jewellery, in response, police succeed in detecting 32 cases, besides recovering 125 mobile phones, and arresting 42 accused while two accused had also been killed in the police encounter.
Regarding the performance of anti-violence crime cell, DIG Operations said during the period it had recovered six pistols, 19 rounds, 51 mobile phones, and arrested six accused. To a question, he said he was unaware about the progress of the case on the Nishtar Park incident.
