Former Punjab governor and PPPP leader Malik Ghulam Mustafa Khar, while expressing grave concern over prevailing situation in the country, has requested Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo motu notice on the issues of President in uniform and holding free and fair elections in the country.
While addressing the members of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) here on Friday, Khar maintained that General Musharraf was working against the national interests as he had given three air bases to the US troops without taking parliament and people of Pakistan into confidence. He was of the view that present rulers were not capable to tackle the existing worst situation being faced by the country.
He further said that General Musharraf instead of taking the people into confidence was ignoring them and also keeping genuine political leadership away from them. He claimed that present rulers could not face the real political leadership hence creating hurdles in their return to the country. He said that present situation demands national consensus on all national issues and induction of true public representatives' government.
Khar also said that the US was supporting Musharraf by ignoring the people of Pakistan. If the US wants better relations with Pakistan, it should take the people of Pakistan into confidence on all national issues. He further said that only way to get rid of the present problems lies in waging struggle for putting an end to army rule.
Expressing grave concern over deteriorating law and order situation, unemployment and escalating price hike, he asked the lawyers to play their due rule for putting an end to illegitimate military rule in Pakistan.
President SCBA Malik Muhammad Qayyum said on the occasion that Chief Justice of Pakistan should take suo motu notice on some national issues including President in Uniform, efforts aimed at his re-election through present assemblies and ensuring free and fair elections in the country. He was of the view that retired judge should not be appointed as chief election commissioner.
