Immunisation of young children, health and sanitation, education promotion and plantation will be main features of the Independence Day celebration programmes to be observed in a vigorous manner in Lyari Expressway's new resettlement sites of Hawks Bay and Taisar Town on August 14.
A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of LEW Project held under the chairmanship of Project Director Shafiqur Rehman Paracha.
Project officers, school teachers and area community representatives attended the meeting.
It was decided that in order to celebrate 'Jashn-e-Azadi' in a constructive manner and with national spirit, the celebrations for the auspices occasion will be continued for 15 days.
In this regard a special programme has been prepared in the first phase of which an immunisation campaign against various diseases for children below five years will be launched.
The campaign will be carried out under the supervision of Gadap Town Health Officer, Dr Khalil Ansari and Hala Rokedia, volunteer co-ordinator of immunisation programme.
For this purpose mobile teams formed under senior doctors will go door to door and inoculate the children. Similarly, for the convenience of inmates of these settlements, immunisation centres will be set-up in all the schools, site offices and dispensaries where children below five years could be taken for free immunisation between 10 am to 5 pm.
These centres will remain functional from August 1-3. Besides, special lectures will be delivered in schools to create awareness among children for protection against various diseases and health and cleanliness.
This campaign will continue for three days in schools and for another three days at site offices.
In the second phase, a plantation drive will be carried out in the resettlement sites to make them green and environment-friendly.
During the campaign, not only trees will be planted on major thoroughfares of the settlements, but each child studying in the school will, along with his parents, plant a tree in front of his house.
'Similarly, other residents of the settlements will be induced to plant trees in their respective Mohallahs, streets and houses and do one ablution out of five for prayers near a planted tree and also wash face of their child once in a day near the plant.This would help plants to grow with ablution water and remain green forever.
In the third phase of Independence Day celebration programme, a campaign will be started for admission of children not going to schools.
During the campaign, groups of teachers and children of schools will be formed, which will go house to house, contact parents and get admission forms of their children, not going to schools, filled while special attention will be paid on admission of girls.
A special campaign will also be carried out for cleanliness in all the areas with the participation of school children and people of respective areas.
The last phase of the programme will envisage speech and national songs contests, tableaus and skits in every school of the settlements.
