The torrential monsoon rains on the night between Sunday and early Monday morning paralysed the routine life as the rains played havoc in several areas of the city besides Murree, Kahuta and Kotli Satian.
All the low-lying areas of the city, including Aria Mohallah, Nadeem Colony, Javed Colony, Chamanzar Colony, Liaquat Bagh, Gwalmandi, Dhok Khaba, Glass Factory, Sadiqabad and Sir Syed Chowk came under water.
There is high-level flood in the Nullah Lei and the water has crossed the dangerous line due to which the dwellers of the surrounding areas were alerted and the district administration declared emergency in the all over the Rawalpindi. Similarly emergency was announced in all the city hospitals while no domestic or foreign flight landed on Islamabad airport due to inclement weather.
According to the Met office 200 mm rain was recorded in Islamabad while Rawalpindi and Murree received 100 mm and 110 mm rain respectively due to which the routine life was badly affected.
When the water level in Nullah Lei reached to 22 feet the civil administration, military and other institutions were made alert to cope with any untoward situation. However, the water level in Nullah Lei remained normal when the rain stopped on Monday at 11:00 pm.
When this agency contacted the control room of the civil administration it was confirmed that the Nullah Lei had touched the dangerous level and the admin had been alerted. The agency also contacted the Civil Aviation Authority and the CAA officials also confirmed that till Monday 10:00 am no domestic or foreign flight has landed the Islamabad airport due to inclement weather.
Similarly, the traffic system in the twin cities was also badly affected and the commuters, especially the government servants, working women and patients faced severe problem due to non-availability of public transport. The relief teams have been dispatched to the low-lying areas to examine and review arrangements in the affected areas.
